Synthetic Cell Culture Media
Cell Culture Media
Cell Culture Media involves the techniques for maintaining and growing cells outside their original tissue environment, under controlled survival conditions. It is widely used in research to study cell behavior and response to different stimuli, as well as to produce recombinant proteins and drugs. Our offerings include solid, liquid, and powdered media formulations and components designed to promote cell growth, proliferation, and cryopreservation.

Basal Medium Eagle (BME)
Basal Medium Eagle (BME), created by Harry Eagle, is a fundamental synthetic cell culture medium known for supporting HeLa cells and various other cell lines. Its broad applicability has made it a precursor to other media like Eagle Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) and Dulbecco Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM).

CMRL Media (CMRL 1066)
CMRL 1066 Medium was originally developed by Connaught Medical Research Laboratories for the growth of Earle’s “L” cells under serum-free conditions. CMRL 1066 media is also especially useful for cloning monkey kidney cells and for growth of many other mammalian cell lines when supplemented with horse or calf serum.

Glasgow MEM (GMEM)
Glasgow Minimum Essential Medium (GMEM) is a modification of Basal Eagle’s Medium (BME), developed by Ian MacPherson and Michael Stoker to study genetic factors affecting cell competence. The alterations to BME include the addition of 10% tryptose phosphate and a doubling of the normal concentration of amino acids and vitamins. It was notably used in transformation studies with baby hamster kidney (BHK-21) cells.

Ham's Nutrient Medium (F10, F12, and F14)
Ham’s Nutrient Medium was originally developed to support the growth of several clones of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, as well as clones of HeLa cells and mouse L cells. Both mixtures were formulated for use with or without the addition of serum, depending on the cultured cell type.

IMDM (Iscove's Modified Dulbecco's Medium)
Iscove’s Modified Dulbecco’s Media are enriched modifications of DMEM containing sodium selenite. They are excellent for rapidly proliferating high-density cell cultures.

Leibovitz (L-15 Medium)
L-15 Medium is buffered by its complement of salts, free base amino acids and galactose (in place of glucose). Many viruses have been successfully cultivated in this medium.
Product Category
Medium 199
This complex medium was developed specifically for nutritional research of chicken fibroblasts. Today, Medium 199s are widely used for the maintenance of non-transformed cells, vaccine and virus production and primary explants of epithelial cells.

McCoy's 5A Medium
McCoy’s Medium was originally formulated for the growth and support of lymphocytes. This final modification produced a media identical to RPMI 1629. McCoy’s 5A support the indefinite proliferation of Walker 256 carcinoma cells.

Minimum Essential Medium (MEM)
Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) is a series of modifications of Basal Medium Eagle (BME) tailored to more closely match human cell protein content and support various mammalian cell types. These media variants cater to the growth of normal, transformed, and specific cell types like keratinocytes and melanoma cells.

Serum Reduced Media (MCDB)
MCDB is formulated to cultivate human microvascular endothelial cells.
For other microvascular cells, it is recommended to use the medium with growth factors like EGF or hormones like hydrocortisone.

Schneider's Drosophila Medium
Schneider’s Drosophila Medium was developed to encourage the growth of Imaginal Discs excised from Drosophila melanogaster, the fruit fly. Schneider’s Drosophila Medium also promotes rapid growth of both primary and existing cell cultures derived from Drosophila spp. and several other dipterans when supplemented with 5-20% heat-inactivated Fetal Bovine Serum.
