G-418, also known as geneticin, is an antibiotic used for the selection of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells of interest. Resistance to this antibiotic is conferred by the expression of two resistance genes that are naturally present in some bacterial strains, and through transfection in eukaryotic cells.
