Leibovitz L-15 Medium was initially designed for use in systems without carbon dioxide (CO2) and without a sodium bicarbonate buffer. The medium is buffered by its salt components, free base amino acids, and galactose instead of glucose to maintain physiological pH levels.
When appropriately supplemented, Leibovitz L-15 Medium can support established cell lines such as Hep-2, L929, MRC-5, and LLC-MK2, as well as primary explants from both embryonic and adult human tissues. It has also been effective in cultivating many viruses.
The formulation includes L-Glutamine.
