Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) is one of the most widely used cell culture media. This medium has proven effective in supporting various normal and transformed cells in culture. Hanks’ salts have replaced Earle’s salts. Due to the significantly lower bicarbonate concentration, this medium has a greatly reduced buffering capacity.
The formulation is free of sodium bicarbonate and includes L-Glutamine and non-essential amino acids.
