RPMI-1640 medium was developed by Moore and colleagues at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in 1966 for the growth of human leukemic cells in monolayer or suspension.
RPMI-1640 is a versatile medium with numerous applications for a wide range of mammalian cell lines, such as the Jurkat cell line, hybridoma cells, human myeloma, mouse hybridoma, human leukocytes, and B and T lymphocytes.
Its formulation does not contain L-Glutamine, sodium bicarbonate, or phenol red.
